Looking at... Being Looked at...

It was when I was little. I don't remember quite clearly, but it was before I entered elementary school. On a very sunny Sunday, my father who loved mountain climbing, woke me up and told me to follow him; which was unusual. I woke up with sleepy eyes and followed him. On the way to the mountain, I was drowsy and bumped my head against the car window in sleepiness……. I climbed the mountain after my father, who had a great love for the mountains. When we reached the top after a long road, the whole view of downtown Seoul came into view. It was fabulous. Before descending the mountain, father called me and asked, " What do you see down there?" I answered, "I see houses, they look so small." "Yes, the houses down there look so small. People are struggling for a living in such a small world. We can see from here people who live full of thoughts." Frankly speaking, I couldn't see people down there. Yet, I answered "yes" to my father. The small houses seen from the mountain top and the world seen in the houses……. The world looking different from different viewpoints……. Is it looking at us? Or is it being looked at? What about us living there?
